ak_sbt@yahoo.com AbstractHexane, ethyl acetate, methanol andaqueous extracts prepared from the leaves ofAbelmoschus moschatus were evaluated for theirantimicrobial activity against a number ofpathogens by using disc diffusion assay method.Clear zones of inhibition were reported forStaphylococcus aureus, Bacillus megaterium,Shigella flexneri, Proteus mirabilis, Proteusvulgaris and Cornebacterium diphtheriae. Afterperforming a bioassay guided fractionation of theeight hexane fractions, it was revealed that thefraction exhibiting major antibacterial activityagainst C. diphtheriae contained terpenoid oil.
